Understanding your options and how to maximize your benefits can make a big difference.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is eligible for Medicare?<\/h2>\n<p>You are generally eligible for Medicare if you fall into any of the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are 65 or older<\/li>\n<li>Are under 65 with certain disabilities<\/li>\n<li>Have end\u2011stage renal disease or ALS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most people become eligible at age 65, and enrollment timing matters. Missing deadlines can lead to late penalties or gaps in coverage. You can always find the most current eligibility and enrollment details on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicare.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official Medicare website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>How does Medicare work?<\/h2>\n<p>Medicare is made up of four main parts: Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D. So even with the Original Medicare plan, certain gaps in care are covered.<\/p>\n<p>What is the difference between Medigap and Medicare Advantage?<\/p>\n<p>Medicare Supplement plans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with Original Medicare<\/li>\n<li>Help pay costs Original Medicare doesn\u2019t cover<\/li>\n<li>Typically have higher monthly premiums<\/li>\n<li>Do not include extra benefits like dental or vision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Medicare Advantage plans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Replace Original Medicare<\/li>\n<li>Often have lower monthly premiums<\/li>\n<li>May include prescription drugs and extra services<\/li>\n<li>Focus on preventive care and wellness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Choosing the right option depends on your health needs, budget and lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best Medicare plan is the one that fits your life \u2013 your doctors, your medications and how you prefer to receive care,\u201d Sarah said. \u201cIt\u2019s worth taking the time to review your options each year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Medicare Open Enrollment<\/h2>\n<p>Medicare open enrollment runs every year in the fall, usually lasting about a month and a half. This is when you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change Medicare Advantage or Part D plans<\/li>\n<li>Switch between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare<\/li>\n<li>Review coverage to make sure it still meets your needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Health needs can change from year to year and so can plans.
