There\u2019s not much Rodger Bycroft remembers about November 15, 2017.<\/p>\n

His wife, Kathy, and others have to tell the story.<\/p>\n

The Galesburg couple, both 59 years old, went to work that morning. Later that day, Rodger headed home.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe called me from home and said he was having indigestion and back pain. I told him he needed to go to the ER or call 911,\u201d Kathy said.<\/p>\n

Living just four minutes from OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center<\/a>, Rodger decided to drive there, Kathy said.<\/p>\n

As he pulled into the parking lot, his truck struck several vehicles and continued moving.<\/p>\n

Kathy was on her way from work in the Quad Cities and was not far behind Rodger. She watched as he struck four more vehicles. \u201cI think that\u2019s what actually stopped him from going any further,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\"\"The OSF Life Flight<\/a> crew \u2013 nurses Bear Haring and Craig Reisdorf, and pilot Liam Eivers \u2013 were just landing at OSF St. Mary when they saw the commotion.<\/p>\n

People from the hospital and nearby clinic had started to gather in the parking lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told Craig I was going over to see what was going on,\u201d Bear said. \u201cI got about 30-40 yards away and I could see he was blue, really blue and didn\u2019t look good at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Craig and Bear pulled Rodger from the truck and started CPR. Someone from the clinic came out with an Automated External Defibrillator<\/a> (AED) and the Life Flight nurses administered a shock. Rodger struggled to breathe on his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe timing of his accident was incredible \u2013 we were there, then there was the person who brought out the AED and there was an ambulance on the way,\u201d Bear said. \u201cHe couldn\u2019t have been any luckier with the timing of that heart attack and being in the right place at the right time with the right resources just showing up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bear and Craig started Rodger on IV medication, intubated him and rushed him into the ER at OSF St. Mary. It was quickly determined he needed to go to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center<\/a> in Peoria. The crew flew Rodger to Peoria where he underwent a procedure placing two stents to open up the blockage that had caused the heart attack.<\/p>\n

Today, Rodger is feeling healthier and is in cardio therapy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think I\u2019d bring him home,\u201d Kathy said. \u201cWe\u2019re just still in shock and thankful for how fast they all worked that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bear said people act like \u201cwe did something amazing. In all honesty, we just happened to be at the right place at the right time to do what we\u2019re trained to do.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
