After dealing with chronic joint pain in his right hip for several years, Cranston Sparks knew it was time to consider surgery.<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old Bloomington financial consultant began seeing orthopedic surgeon Dr. Lucas Armstrong<\/a> at OSF HealthCare Medical Group \u2013 College Avenue<\/a> 2 \u00bd years ago for his end-stage osteoarthritis.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had terrible pain. It was hard to get around and the pain was affecting my lifestyle,\u201d Cranston said. \u201cThe doctor said there was bone on bone by the time it was determined I needed a hip joint replacement.”<\/p>\n

Make the decision to have surgery<\/h2>\n

\u201cI had been going through therapy quite a bit for the last two years and it was just the last straw. I said enough therapy,\u201d Cranston said. \u201cAnd while nobody wants to have surgery, a number of family members have had hip surgery in the past, and I knew how good the results can be.\u201d<\/p>\n

He underwent hip replacement surgery at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center<\/a> last December and left the hospital feeling great and walking. He met with a physical therapist two to three times a week \u2013 the first two weeks at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter surgery, I can\u2019t say enough for the treatment I received at the hospital \u2013 it was superb. I recall being wheeled into the hospital room and the nurse, Anina Englehorn, made me feel very comfortable \u2013 she kept me calm, cool and collected,\u201d Cranston said. \u201cErin Rogers (the orthopedic service line leader at OSF St. Joseph) made it her priority to come see me how I was doing while in I was in the hospital. She said \u2018You got this, you\u2019re going to be walking in no time.\u2019 And sure enough I was.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey made me feel like a new man,\u201d Cranston said of the caregivers. \u201cThe therapist I had, Kuntal Patel, I wouldn\u2019t trade for the world. I highly recommend OSF \u2013 the doctors, the nurses, everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
