You just received a phone call inviting you to be interviewed for that job at OSF HealthCare. Now what?<\/p>\n

One word: Prepare!<\/p>\n

What to expect<\/h2>\n

\u201cTypically, you\u2019ll have a peer interview, as well as a manager interview,\u201d said Sarah Starling, a professional recruiter for OSF HealthCare in Peoria.<\/p>\n

Depending on the department or unit you have applied to join, there also might be a third interview with additional management personnel.<\/p>\n

The peer interview will be conducted by members of the team with which you\u2019ll work if you\u2019re hired. Manager interviews may include one or more people who fill supervisory roles, including your potential direct report.<\/p>\n

If you have a friend or family member who works for OSF HealthCare, ask them about their own interview experience. If that person is familiar with the department in which you\u2019re interviewing, ask specifics to better prepare your own questions about the job you seek.<\/p>\n

Know the Mission and Values<\/h2>\n

The No. 1 piece of advice when preparing to interview: Know the OSF Mission<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to be able to speak to the Mission,\u201d said Michelle Earley, another professional recruiter for OSF HealthCare. \u201cHow will you contribute to the Mission? What do you bring to the table?\u201d<\/p>\n

That doesn\u2019t mean you have to recite the 36-word Mission statement \u2013 although memorizing it might help build your confidence. But knowing that every OSF HealthCare employee is a Mission Partner who strives to provide \u201cthe greatest care and love\u201d is vital.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also important to pay more than lip service to the Mission. You should be prepared to explain why you are a good fit for this Mission-driven culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I interviewed, I looked up the Mission and made myself repeat it,\u201d Sarah said. \u201cI studied the Values<\/a>, too. Knowing that those were personal values of my own helped me show my connection to what OSF is about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interviewing dos and don\u2019ts<\/h2>\n

Michelle and Sarah offer more advice on preparing for your formal interview with OSF HealthCare:<\/p>\n

Dress professionally. \u201cYou don\u2019t need a full-on suit, but first impressions are everything,\u201d Sarah said. \u201cDress for the job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"WomanAnticipate questions you\u2019ll be asked. Narrow your research to the type of job you seek. \u201cLook up potential questions and think of answers and situations those questions speak to. Google, LinkedIn and Indeed are all good sources,\u201d Michelle said. Dig into the osfhealthcare.org<\/a> website, too.<\/p>\n

Be truthful and real. \u201cWhat stands out to me is people who are very genuine in how they answer,\u201d Michelle said. \u201cWe will ask questions that could pull out something negative. We want to know how you overcame that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t oversell yourself. Highlight your accomplishments, but don\u2019t pretend you\u2019re perfect. \u201cEverybody makes mistakes. We want to know what you learned from your mistakes and how you handled those situations,\u201d Sarah said.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t talk too little \u2013 or too much. \u201cYou shouldn\u2019t give two-word answers,\u201d Sarah said. \u201cIf you can elaborate on an answer, you should. But don\u2019t ramble on and on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ask good questions. \u201cThis is your time to see if the job is a good fit for you as well,\u201d Michelle said. \u201cAsk about advancement opportunities and how you can grow. Ask questions that show you\u2019re knowledgeable about the position itself and the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
